Cheeseburger Casserole with Noodles

An easy cheeseburger casserole with noodles is a perfect weeknight dinner. It offers a unique twist on the classic cheeseburger, which is such a fun and interesting way to switch up your dinnertime routine.

The casserole style makes this recipe so easy to prepare and serve. With less than 30 minutes of cooking you can have dinner on the table quickly, even on nights when you don’t have a lot of time to spend in the kitchen.

Cheeseburger Casserole with Noodles can be customized to suit your families preferences too. You can use different types of ground meat, cheese, vegetables, and toppings to create a flavor profile that everyone will love.

About the Ingredients

Ground beef – I used 90% lean organic beef.

Onion and garlic – chopped small and sautéed to bring out the sweetness.

Italian seasoning – you could swap in any of your favorite seasonings here. If you prefer a smokehouse style flavor try using a bbq spice mixture instead.

Tomato sauce – you don’t need anything fancy here. I use a can of tomato sauce which is mostly pureed tomatoes and very little seasonings at all. The tomato sauce acts as the ketchup would on the burger. It’s just a savory flavor to compliment the meat. The brand I like is Tuttorosso Tomato Sauce.

Egg noodles – I love the shape of egg noodles for this cheeseburger casserole. The wide width lets you easily get lots of meat and cheese in every bite.

Mascarpone cheese – the cheese will melt right into the hot noodles and coat them. This is what keeps the casserole from being dry.

Shredded cheddar cheese – or any kind of cheese you like on your cheeseburgers.

When the noddles are done cooking drain them in a colander and return the noodles to the pot you cooked them in. Stir in some mascarpone cheese, the beef mixture, 1 tsp salt and 1/2 tsp pepper. Transfer the beef and noodle mixture to a casserole dish prepared with cooking spray. Sprinkle the top with shredded cheddar cheese. Recipe Substitutions & Variations

Like actual hamburgers, there are many types of hamburger casseroles to be made. You can mixing things up a bit by changing out the egg noodles and making a cheeseburger casserole with shells or any other type of pasta you like.

You could also add some of your favorite burger toppings by mixing them right into your casserole. Try some of these topping mix-ins:

  • sautéed mushrooms mixed into the beef and sauce
  • blue cheese instead of mascarpone
  • top your casserole with crispy fried onion strings
